Magnolias - words and music by Steve Young
Sittin’ in the shade sweet southern lady
I guess you might have a little more lemonade maybe
Daddy’s talking bug business in the study
Mama’s having another drink, her minds getting muddy
These days seems like something’s wrong with you
You and the university fraternity boys are just about through
And you feel the ( seldom) summer breeze and hear the leaves in the trees
And remember when
And it’s so nice
To be back among the Magnolias again ,...
Last night,.. Outside your bedroom
Was a big old yellow moon
And the nighttime breeze was gentle and sweet
You remembered a young man ,.. very light on his feet ,..
He used to come to your window laughing,
With funny things to say
Till Daddy told him he’d have to get back on his side of the river and stay ,..
Shade time lady gonna soon be done
But ( today) you feel as lazy (timeless ) as a muddy river in the sun
Yonder go some more tourists down the road they’re the first ones today
Trying to find the south before they get back on the 4 lane highway
Here comes Daddy and he’s cussing about bad business again
And there's a big old scary world waiting out beyond your remembering when
And you hear the leaves in the trees and mama wondering
When their gonna bring back gone with wind ( change to as it is in first verse )
And it’s so nice
To be back among the Magnolias again ,...
